The first half of the CD is a mixture of dialogue and songs while the second half is all songs.I know this isn't much of a review. This has been one of my favorite movies since it came out when I was 16. If you like the music, buy this soundtrack." I'm not a reviewer and I'm not a particularly knowledgeable music person so I can only say, "Watch the movie. My original vinyl of the soundtrack had developed lots of scratches, pops and hisses from years of use, so I was thrilled to be able to replace it with a CD. The music is great and, if you've seen the film, the included dialogue aids in moving the story along.
Brilliant, heart breaking, celebratory, and reverent. This is why Berry believed so deeply. Miss Ross, barely in her mid 20s, rendered an interpretation of Billie's artistry that both honors it and eclipses it. The title of this review says it all. As a soundtrack, as a stand alone album, few artists have ever reached this level of achievement.
Loved the movie. This was a replacement for the CD i lost. Love this CD.
Billie Holiday was a great artist, it's a shame we lost her so young. Wonderful. Dianna Ross does a wonderful job of singing her music. Wonderful. Wonderful.
The movie is one that I can watch over and over and over again and always be captivated. In my opinion, (surely due to strong bias because I have been listening to this album since I was a little girl) this album/DVD contains some of the absolute best versions of Billie Holiday songs ever recorded. Diana Ross exquisitely captured the perfect tempo(i), inflection, phrasing, and dynamics for every song (not to mention her incredible acting performance as well).
